Time

I’m not sure if I’m comfortable here yet….

Sorry guys…. I made it out alive LOL

Hey y’all I just wanted to let you know that Doc came back about 15 minutes later.  We were still able to get to some stores before closing and I got myself a new couch!  I’ll have it in my new place.  I’m so happy to be done with that crappy UNCOMFORTABLE futon.

I never made it to JS yesterday.  It was a busy day and I never even turned on my computer!!!  But alas, I’m alive and doing okay.  Thanks Sparkles, for sending me that e-mail so I would get my butt over here and post!!!!

Trapped

So here I sit… in Doc’s apartment.  I have no car and no food.

Doc and I were running some errands today.  I got my hair cut (which I desperately needed) and we were going to go shopping for a new futon mattress or a new couch for me.  But… the phone rang.    His son was upset, and his Ex asked if he could come over there and help him.  I won’t elaborate on that any more — that’s up to Doc if he wants to talk about it later.

We were on his side of town in his truck, so he brought me to his apartment and left.  That was about an hour ago.   I have no idea how long he’s going to be.  At least if I was at my own apartment I could do something productive, like get some cleaning done.  It’s 7:30 PM.  Even if he gets back in teh next few minutes it will be 9 PM until we have dinner.  We don’t have money to go out, so we have to wait to get home to my place (about a 30 minutes drive) and make something (he doesn’t have much food here at his place).

I wasn’t going to turn his heat on, but I’m starting to get cold and I haven’t heard from him, so it’s probably going to be longer.  Man I wish I had brought some stuff with me to do……

Question

Posted by gillardia, Jan 23rd, 2009

So tell me…. what does one do to figure out their calling in life?

I have been unhappy with my work for years. I’ve been in the insurance field pretty much my whole career. I’m tired of insurance, but I don’t know what else to do. I want to enjoy my work week, not count down until it’s over.

It feels impossible to switch career-paths in the middle like this. I’ve been out of college over 10 years, so my salary requirements are higher than someone straight out of college with no experience. I’m a seasoned professional with no experience other than the insurance industry.

So how do I make the switch to something else without taking a huge pay cut? I’m feeling like there is no way. I can’t afford a pay cut — I took a large pay cut 2 years ago (we are talking like $17,000/yr big) and I have been in debt ever since. I can’t go any lower. It’s not an option.

The other problem. I have no idea what I’d be happy doing. I’m tired of the corporate crap. But that’s the only way to go. It’s the only safe way, anyway. I can’t take risks like starting my own business, for example. I need stable, steady income.

So…. that’s my dilemma. There’s something for y’all to chew on for a while. I’d love any suggestions you can offer.

I have more work to do

I clearly haven’t spent enough time here yet.  I’m still having a little trouble getting around.  Thanks to Samantha Baker for helping me to change some of my settings so at least people could see my post! :-)

I feel so busy right now.  I’m procrastinating this very minute in fact.

Oh!  I started a new work-out for myself.   I bought a new video program called the Wave.  It combines cardio and hand weights.  I think it’s going to be good.  I hope it helps me lose weight.  I SO need to lose weight.  We’ll see how it goes….  Wish me luck.

Let’s see… what else? I don’t know.  I’m looking forward to moving, although I just want to skip right to the part where I’m all moved into my new place!  Moving is just not fun.

Okay, I’m rambling here.  I should be trying to figure out how to use this site.  No… I should be doing the other things I need to be doing tonight.

Later.

My birthday weekend

Posted by gillardia, Jan 19th, 2009

Yep — y’all missed it.  My birthday was yesterday.  I had a great weekend pretty much from start to finish.

First off:  I took the day off on Friday, and so did Doc.  We had a nice day together.  We also did some apartment hunting for me and we found the one.   The apartment complex is smaller than the one I live in now — it has a ‘homier” feel (is that a word?) to it.  There’s only 4 apartments per building, so it has more windows than a lot of apartments.

I’m getting a first floor one right near the pool!  No more steps for Pretzel and her little short legs.  :-)

Doc and I went out to dinner Friday night to an Italian place we wanted to try out.  The food was great!  Then we went to check out the complex at night — to make sure the neighborhood seemed okay and that it was well lit.  It passed the “night” test.

I was so excited that I finally found a place that I decided we should go out and celebrate.  So we went to a bar to watch a band play.  We’d seen them play before — they cover classic rock songs and they’re pretty good.

Friday night was a late night, so the morning of my birthday we were moving slowly.  Doc ran out and got me a birthday cake (chocolate of course).  Then I got to open my present.  He got me a beautiful Irish wedding ring.  For those of you who don’t know what that is… on the ring there is a pair of hands holding a heart with a crown on top.  The legend is that you wear it with the crown facing out if you are “taken”, and you wear it with the heart facing out if your heart is open for love.

Anyway, it’s beautiful and I love it!  Maybe I’ll post a pic later — is it still the same way to post a pic?

In the afternoon we went over to the apartment complex and I turned in my application and paid the application and deposit.  I should know in a few days if I’m accepted.  Keep your fingers crossed!

Then we hung out here for a bit and I signed up for the new JS.  I’m still getting used to it.  I’m going to spend more time — which I don’t really have right now.  But I’ll get it I’m sure.

Then it was off to dinner with lowandslow and dkpark (yeah, that’s dkmcb01’s new name here on JS).  We went to a great pizza place and had a very nice time as always when we hang out with them.  Doc brought the cake to dinner and lit candles and they all sang Happy Birthday to me.  It was fun!

Now it’s back to work tomorrow.  I’m so excited about my new apartment.  I can’t wait to move in March.  Woo-hoo!!!!
